4/27/18 Guilin to Yangshuo

4/27/18

Guilin to Yangshuo

We left Guilin early to get to the boat cruise that would take us down the Li River to Yangshuo.

The hotel we stayed at for 10 hours was very new and fancy, but not much time to enjoy it.

The family suite- not so family-friendly with the bathroom in the middle, between the huge bed where Katie and the girls slept and the lounge area where they set up twin beds for the boys. Lots of marble and glitz, and glass.  Good thing the kids don't yet care about privacy!

A 5otm pic below!

The four hour boat cruise was filled

with incredible cast formations. These are composed of limestone, which is very porous. Because the water seeps through the limestone, it is common for cave to form in inside these mountains. Along the way, many of these formations have been compared to animals: Bats, turtles, goat hooves, monkeys, and horses.

This formation is on the 20 yuan bill:

This is known as the 7 horses: you can make out multiple horses in the white and green parts of the wall.

We then visitied a local village.

We were happy to check into our hotel. We will be staying here for 2 nights! Seems like a luxury to stay more than one night at the same location.

This was our view from our room along the river! Peaceful and great food.

The hotel is owned by an American and the kids played badminton and had burgers and fries for dinner.

A few beers with some new friends who work at the American Embassy in Beijing and have 3 kids. We then went to the light show together.

Everywhere we went the kids wanted to dance, so we put on a show for the Chinese tourists.

The light show choreographer was the man who arranged the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. It involved 600 people in the production, 2200 people attend each show and they do 3 shows every night, rain or shine.

Hayden has a video on the vlog. You can check it out.

Back home and we can sleep in to 8 AM!
